Masterplan Concepts
Inviting the Waiwhetu Stream into the GIQ site.
Enhance and regenerate the escarpment forest to background of the GIQ site and ground it within the broader valley edge.
Addressing resilience to flooding, catalyses positive environmental impacts, and responds to aesthetic and recreational values.
Encroaching well into the site, this riparian zone is prone to varying levels of inundation which the proposed planting is adapted to thrive. The resultant proposal has aesthetic and ecological appeal.
Among the sites buildings a more punctuated planting approach is proposed to differentiate the array of outdoor spaces and assist with navigation. The planting proposals draw on a variety of ecotones from similar conditions in this region’s natural environment and acts as an ecological transition from river to escarpment.
